A Culture of Giving Back: Janitronics’ Community Involvement
Since our founding in 1977, Janitronics has built a culture of philanthropy and volunteerism centered on the organizations that matter to our employees and the communities where we live and work.
For us, giving back is more than donating to a worthy cause. It means showing up. Our employees volunteer their time, get to know the organizations we support, and stay involved long after the first event.
Our giving program includes sponsorships, charitable contributions, and volunteering.
Support Through Sponsorships and Charitable Contributions
We sponsor and make charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations and community events across Greater Boston. We often do so in partnership with the professional associations we belong to, including BOMA Boston, IFMA Boston, ISPE Boston, and MassBio. Earlier this year, we sponsored and served on the committee for the BOMA Boston Benefit to support Bridge Over Troubled Waters and its work with at-risk youth.
Additionally, Janitronics participated in the Kendall Square Challenge, hosted by the Kendall Square Association. As a first-time event sponsor, our team joined more than 60 participating teams from technology, life sciences, and other industries. Janitronics competed on behalf of Science Club for Girls, a Cambridge-based nonprofit that provides free, hands-on STEM programming and mentorship to young people across Greater Boston. The event brought colleagues together for a day of teamwork while supporting organizations making a difference locally.
We also support events for meaningful nonprofit organizations such as Boston Children’s Hospital for pediatric research, the Samaritans for mental health care, and CASPAR for substance use treatment.
Volunteerism Is an Important Part of Our Culture
We organize volunteer events throughout the year, giving employees at every level the opportunity to take part in supporting local causes. Rather than choosing a single cause each year, we support organizations that serve the community and meet a real need. Over the years, that has included support for veterans, education, hunger relief, clothing, and school supplies.
One of our staples is the Greater Boston Food Bank, where we volunteer several times each year. In May, our volunteers packed more than 8,000 pounds of non-perishable food for distribution to local food pantries.
Our team also organizes regular donation drives. We collect, sort, transport, and deliver donations directly to each nonprofit. Recently, we hosted a month-long clothing drive for Second Chances and a Cereal and Backpack Drive with Bread of Life for at-risk public school students. We’ve also collected laptops and other essentials for a girls’ orphanage in Dominican Republic, where many of our staff have roots.
Our team also shares its expertise where it can make a difference. This spring, Janitronics employees spent a day at the Ron Burton Training Village in Hubbardston, MA. We deep-cleaned the main building and dormitories and stripped and sealed the cafeteria floors ahead of the villagers’ return. We also donated a new cordless backpack vacuum to support the Village’s fitness center.
Volunteering at Janitronics is always optional, but our events regularly fill up quickly. Many of our employees are active in their own communities, and our volunteer events give them another way to give back. As Janitronics continues to grow across more client sites, these events also give team members the chance to connect with colleagues they may not otherwise meet.
A staff favorite is Apple-Pa-Looza, where employees and their families spend a day together picking apples at a local orchard each fall. Despite the rain at this year’s event at Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow, MA, our team picked 374 bags of apples, donating 157 bags to Bread of Life and 30 bags to CASPAR.
Building Long-Term Community Partnerships
Many of our community partnerships began with a single sponsorship or a cause important to one of our clients or professional associations. Over time, they have grown into lasting relationships.
One example is our partnership with the Community Foundation for MetroWest. We have been a member for several years and participated in One MetroWest Day of Volunteering last year. In 2026, Janitronics sponsored the Foundation’s Leadership Reception, served on its planning committee, and joined the distribution committee that reviews its grant applications.
One of the Most Charitable Companies in Massachusetts
In September, the Boston Business Journal named Janitronics an honoree in its annual Corporate Citizenship Awards, which recognize the most charitable companies in Massachusetts. This marks the 14th consecutive year Janitronics has received this recognition, and this year we moved up more than nine spots to #79 on the list.
We are honored to be recognized alongside many commercial real estate and life science organizations that share our commitment to the communities we serve.
Looking Ahead
As Janitronics approaches its 50th anniversary, giving back remains central to who we are. We sincerely appreciate the organizations we have the privilege of supporting, the Brecher family for their continued generosity, and every Janitronics employee who volunteers their time to strengthen the Greater Boston communities we proudly serve.
